I tried to order a double cheeseburger with only one patty at McDonalds and they tried to sell me a regular cheeseburger -which has one less slice of cheese and (at the time) cost more than a double. When I pointed this out and tried to reorder, they said they couldn’t do it. They suggested just removing one patty and throwing it out. I pointed out that [a] that would be wasteful and [b] the cheese sticks to the patty so it sould be rather difficult. They then countered with the suggestion that I order a regular cheeseburger with an extra slice of cheese, thus raising the price an additional 35 cents. I said goodbye.

I worked in a Burger King years ago. Yes you could order a Whopper without a bun. And there were people that ordered them.

Chris: I worked at a burger joint called “Hardees” and would get the same request… also bun and topping without the meat.
