As I heard the story… American pilots took condoms along to stretch over the headphone pieces, which otherwise had a chance to freeze to the skin of their ears- ouch! Captured pilots refused to explain them- and the PTB on this side somehow learned, and made the manufacturer put “EXTRA SMALL” on normal sized condoms. Less theft… and more upsetting to the Germans!
