Marcia: Okay, Newmans. I'd recommend going to bed early tonight. We start tomorrow at 5 a.m.
Adam: Five a.m.!! Oh, sweet mercy!
Marcia: Coffee will be on at 4:30.
Adam: I'll be down at 4:29.
Well life on a farm is kinda laid back
Ain’t much an old country boy like me can’t hack
It’s early to rise early in the sack
Thank God I’m a country boy
A simple kind of life never did me no harm
Raisin’ me a family and workin’ on a farm
My days are all filled with an easy country charm
Thank God I’m a country boy
Well I got me a wife I got me old fiddle
When the sun’s comin’ up I got cakes on the griddle
And life ain’t nothin’ but a funny funny riddle
Thank God I’m a country boy
When the work’s all done and the sun’s settin’ low
I pull out my fiddle and I rosin’ up the bow
But the kids are asleep so I keep it kinda low
Thank God I’m a country boy
I’d play Sally Goodin all day if I could
But the Lord and my wife wouldn’t take it very good
So I fiddle when I can and I work when I should
Thank God I’m a country boy
Well I got me a wife…
[ fiddle ]
Well I wouldn’t trade my life for diamonds or jewels
I never was one of them money hungry fools
I’d rather have my fiddle and my farmin’ tools
Thank God I’m a country boy
Yeah city folks drivin’ in a black limousine
A lotta sad people think that’s mighty keen
Well son let me tell you exactly what I mean
Thank God I’m a country boy
Well I got me a fine wife…
[ fiddle ]
Well my fiddle was my daddy’s till the day he died
And he took me by the hand and held me close to his side
He said live a good life play my fiddle with pride
And thank God you’re a country boy
Well my daddy taught me young how to hunt and how to whittle
He taught me how to work and play a tune on the fiddle
He taught me how to love and how to give just a little
And thank God I’m a country boy
Well I got me a fine wife…

Green Acres is the place to be
farm living is the life for me
Farming like all things years ago was simpler, NOT easier, just simpler.
I still have a recipe to make your own mirror, soap, toothpaste, shaving soap and a thing they called a voltaic battery.
Without the net I could survive, but not really thrive. You can take the farm out of the boy.
These days the farmers know how to use the net better then most of Silicon Valley.
DOC TOON this is a basic problem with NUC COFFEE. In order to drink your brew at 430AM, you have to start brewing at 8:30PM. Aside from the fire hazard I have created by by-passing the 2 hour shut-off, I still have problems sleeping with a nuclear concoction brewing all night on a $13.95 electrical device I bought at WalMart. Please send safety instruction or continue that danged pipeline to New England.
Lew, good to see you here, and that you’re not seeing faces!
I’m thinkin’ Doc needs to continue the Nuc Coffee Pipeline to Toronto … I have a few dozen people that could use a “real” coffee, and none of this Starbucks / Second Cup / Tim Horton’s stuff that people insist on spending insane amounts of money on! LOL
Real farmers only get up that early if they have to milk cows, or are morning people. My dad farmed for years, and he got up after 8am. However, he had beef cattle, hogs, wheat, brome & alfalfa - none of which needed attention early in the day.
But since on this farm they have dairy cattle, 4:30am is probably necessary.
I work with “real farmers” every day in my job. Some are dairy farmers, some aren’t, and I don’t know a one that gets up any later than 6 am, and even that’s pushing it.
To pick a nit, she said “We start” at 5:00 AM, not “We rise” at 5:00 AM. She may have been up for hours by that time, before she puts her guests to work…
I’m no gardener, shytimes, but my suspicion is that unpicked nits accumulate linearly, but once you start picking them they increase exponentially. The more you pick, the more you find that need picking; so it’s usually wise to let sleeping nits lie.

Hi JFri I love that song and yes I was born a country girl. Still prefer it. But I’m not too sure of 4:30 AM anymore.
Morning napaeric

5:00 a.m. is ‘sleeping in’, and almost like being on vacation for a rea farmer.
I do like Adam’s Oh sweet mercy! reaction though.
Doc Toon–I suspect that Adam is expecting it to be nuclear. I would.

only time i am up at 5 a.m. is to possibly use the necessary, then i’m back to bed, till like 9 a.m. lol

shytimes that’s a good question. I’m an avid gardener and even I don’t have an answer to that one!!

keltii where are you from? I love that expression, to use the “necessary” but it sure isn’t an American expression, that I know of.
