Bad memories, very bad - shudder. What was that gray, viscously slimy stuff that kept trying to ooze off the tray? The last time they took it to the ChemLab, it took it out!

Ah yes, the school lunches! I remember, many, many years ago, when I was in the high school cafeteria and they were serving cold hamburgers. One of the lunch aides brought out a tall rack filled with hot hamburgers and was told, “No, not yet. We still have these here to serve first.” So, of course, the hot ones got cold waiting. Even at the young age of 14 I could see the stupidity in that logic, but the adults failed to see it.

One of my favorite cafeteria foods at school - Peanut Butter Fudge! My goodness it was good!!! Soft, creamy, smooth, yummy, and a GREAT stickiness quality that really kept it stuck to the cafeteria ceiling (really!). You always had to buy two pieces - eat one, toss one. Ahh - those childhood memories.

i think these things are similar across the countries. in my college cantin, they once gave a syrup of custard powder for dessert: called it “hot ice-cream”. no kidding.

I remember the soup in an Austrian Hotel many years ago. It was just like the ‘Mustgo’ soup. At the beginning of the week it was a clear broth. By Friday you could stand the spoon up in it. I imagine that each days leftovers got tipped into a large pot in the kitchen. Any way, that soup just got thicker day by day.

Mmmmm … school lunches. The fresh yeast rolls every day and Thursdays chili over rice. That was the best.

Our high school served cheese bread at the À la carte line. Sooo god, but sooo bad for you. Only had it when my friend got it for me. School lunches need to be made healthier! I don’t remember elementary lunches, must have suppressed those memories!
