Laura: What are you going to wear to take the kids trick-or-treating? Adam: What do you mean? I'm an adut. I'm going to wear grown-up clothes. Laura: Okay. Sure. If you'd like to pretend that you don't care, that's fine. I just want to know if you need me to put a costume together. It's getting close, you know. Adam: Duly noted. Laura: Spider-man? Adam: With great Adam comes great responsibility.

Most of my Halloween costumes involving digging through closets and creative thinking, perhaps some sewing in my younger years.
I went as a hippie in the 60’s - wore a string mop on my head and carried a sign saying “Down With Baths!”
When I was in high school and working at McDonald’s, the evening shift I was on dressed up as “ladies of the evening” - we went to thrift stores to pick out suitable clothing. Our black assistant manager dressed up as our pimp.
I dressed as a wino when I was in my 20’s - wore my Dad’s clothes: long coat, big shoes stuffed with newspapers in the toes, etc. and carried a glass bottle of Watkins brand vanilla in a brown paper bag. At least I passed the security test at work - the bottle was labeled as “non-alcoholic” - so I didn’t get fired.

My best impromptu costume was when a girlfriend told me we had an invitation to go to a Christmas costume party - and the costume had to be Christmas related, and I had no time. I stopped at a drugstore on the way, bought a pack of pipe cleaners, stuck two of them behind my ears. When people asked me what I was, I said, “Hmmmmm…a humbug. What else?”
One hallowe’en, my dad went along with us, and as what he thought was a joke, took a shot glass which he held out when said “Trick or Treat”. Enough of the neighbors took him seriously that we ended up helping him get from house to house.
