Katy: You got one??
Adam: Got it. I give you the "Bug-Nihlator 7000". The "Dead Bug Flying" edition. Says it fries mosquitoes "Like They're Goin' Outta Business".
Katy: Then does it hunt down their families?
Adam: That one was more expensive.

“Her daughters”, not “their families”. Only female mosquitoes bite!

Cheaper version that WILL hunt down the families…bat house. A pregnant little brown bat will eat up to her body weight in mosquitoes and other flying insects per night.

You can always hire a family of bats to do the job.

There is strong evidence that bug zappers actually increase the bug population of an area by attracting insects from areas they would have remained. The most effective mosquito trap I have heard about uses propane to create CO2 levels equal to human and animal respiration to attract the mosquitos inside the trap. It has a range greater than a bug zapper.

Be sure you put it way out by the fence; or better still, in a neighbor’s backyard…

You can buy tennis-racket-shaped yellow bug zappers—we bought a bunch for $2 a pop. Good for getting that bug that’s inside. Hold the button on and swing wildly and you don’t even have to see where it went as long as those metal net parts hit it.

Note that eliminating the males may do more good. That’s the plan, anyway. Release neutered males, and then the females don’t get fertilized properly.

All I’m telling you is how they are doing it. From any crop of eggs you get both males and females. If you release a significant number of non-fertile males, only a small portion of the females produce viable eggs, so the next generation has less eggs. I suppose they could also release sterile females to confuse the fertile males, but for whatever reason, they are doing it the other way.
