I’m not sure which schools you’re referring to, but my daughters’ school is very strict. My daughter had to have a math tutor because almost is NOT good enough. They attend a public charter school run by nuns.

Complicated math can be made easy if you know some shortcuts. What is 13 times 9? I have no idea, but i know that 13 times 10 is 130, then i take off the one extra 13 to make 117, That is how it can be easy in your head.

What is the 15% tip on 42 dollars? Well, 10% is 4.20 and 5% is half of that, so 4.20 + 2,10 is $6.30. Easy.

In Idaho, close enough is good enough has been the rule for at least twenty, twenty-five years. I never thought of Idaho as being liberal. In fact, the liberals I know are not at all in favor of the business model of education espoused by so many conservatives.

“Y’know, I’ll bet that if Agnes gave the correct answer without the forward, she’d STILL be sent to the principal’s office!!!”-Possibly, but we’ll never know, will we?
