Well…. I don’t know whether Duane looks more like a rat than a hamster because … well, because he’s a rat… or because Tony draws poor old bedraggled hamsters in a sort of rat-like way.But Agnes’ ancient bedraggled dog, Lester, was referred to by his veterinarian as a dog…and he also looks rather more like a rat.But then, he’s reputedly 32 years old in human measurement…. 224 in dog years, by the old system. There’s been a bit of discussion here about Lester….so for those who don’t remember him, I managed to dig up two strips in which he was featured,

One when Agnes picked him up at the vet in 2012, after an indeterminate but lengthy stay, when she’d forgotten about him….

And one from about a year ago…

Clicking on either will take you back to that day’s page in the archives, in case you want to read the comments, or follow a bit of the backstory.

Actually, Agnes’ “hamster” looks like the possum that comes up on my kitchen porch at night and eats whatever food scraps I leave out for it. (It loves cat food).

Need to hire that hamster out to the local casino. It looks good at card games.

Well that’s definitely not a hamster. Hamsters don’t have tails. I think Agnes got herself a pet rat, which is pretty neat…. rats make fantastic pets!!

I thought her “Hamster” only had three legs? Which one is missing? Or did Agnes get it fitted with a prosthetic?

    Good question. X!

On Saturday, Duane was said to have three legs….Click to go back

But I enlarged today’s strip, and I can’t actually see four, cos what looks like his right hind leg is actually the long foot and toes of the left one.

So maybe his right rear leg is the missing one…or maybe it moves, like Eye-gor’s hump.

@SusanIf you go back to Monday’s strip you can see it’s right rear leg.

    X … oops!

I think we may have to call upon the “Eye-gor’s Hump” clause……..which is the popular name for a film industry regulation that states:“Physical attributes and deformities, props, clothing and other accoutrements seen in films, cartoons and comic strips are infinitely mirrorable…that is, transferable to the opposite side of the body, without penalty.”

This law was put in place to protect filmmakers who, between sequential shots, accidentally moved a coffee cup or a hair brush from one hand to the other…And was finally used to its full advantage by Mel Brooks in “Young Frankenstein.”
