As a Navy brat, I changed schools every year or 2, and never really learned how to make friends. I certainly never learned how to keep them. (Margaret from Walterboro, SC, if you see this, I never forgot you and will always be grateful for your kindness to an oblivious new kid).
One thing I learned very well – if you do make a friend who doesn’t drop you, or get dropped, when things change, you HOLD ON, they’re worth the effort.
I still have very few friends, but I wouldn’t miss knowing them for anything.
Sorry, I got maudlin, but I’m not erasing it, so ignore me or not.
Ever since college (but especially after I got married), I have always considered “home” to be where I live. The town where I grew up or where my parents lived was a nice place to visit, but, after a few days, I was always ready to go home. Am I in the minority to feel that way?

It’s hard for people that care.

Yes, it is hard being people, but we are up to the challenge. Hang in there.

Oh, good, others find it hard. I thought I was doing it wrong.
