Poor Andy. and there he is studying so hard to earn an honest living at the pony track. Why that man works for hours without end at the pool table. Mum should understand that her hard working son-in-law has to take a break on the couch every now and then. He doesn’t get a weeks holiday. No sir, that Mr Capp sets an example for millions.
Come to think of it how would I feel if I had a daughter like Flo who supports her drunken bum of a husband? No wonder Andy’s m-i-l hates his guts! I would too!
Wow! Mum must be slipping a bit because she left out Moocher, Liar, Cad… Oh wait now I get it there wasn’t enough room for all of the expletives that Mum could have used so she just hit the high… low ones? But… that’s our Andy if nothing else you have to love him to hate him.
I had one a long time ago she died at age 88. Long before her son and I married, and I was working full time at a min. wage job hard work in an office, she told her son in front of me he ought to be seeing someone else. He didn’t and we’ve been married for 28 years soon be 29 next year.
Lew I couldn’t have said it any better and beat it all Andy never looked up from the newspaper.
chol_etc ;) - you sound like a believer in the wry proverb, “Behind every successful man stands a surprised mother-in-law!”
That said…I’ll stand by Joe on this one. I don’t know any dysfunctional parent-in-law relationships in my circle of friends and immediate family. I do know a few dysfunctional parental ones.

It’s good to see the affection that Andy’s mother-in-law has for him.

Now you can see why men do not get along with mother-in-laws. Always trying to poison a perfect union!

I doubt Flo disagreed with her.
