That’s because Ringo had gotten PO’d at the rest of the band and the whole process and had walked out. He was back before the sessions were over, and found his drum set covered in flowers to welcome his return. Officially, the only song he missed was “Back in the USSR”; and the drumming on that is so mechanical it can’t be confused for Ringo, who, while not the flashiest drummer in the world (he hated drum solos; had to be persuaded to take the solo that appeared on “Abbey Road”), was at least more musical than the work on “Back in the USSR,” which was done by McCartney.
