This is where I miss Affie explaining the first panel that Andy is looking away like a truant kid, then being attentive when ‘job centre’ hits the nail right on the head, and then walking away triumphantly in the last panel, Chalkie being happy for his friend regardless…!
I was on the “dole” for 2 and a 1/2 years and I wanted to work (Thankfully, I am working now) but there are some people out there who can’t be bothered and don’t try hard. Yet they seem to find jobs easy.
Work is usually available it is just that some people think the job is beneath their dignity. Granted, sometimes you can’t make enough that it is worthwhile.
There were many job interviews I attended where I was informed that I was over qualified for the job. I have a very basic formal education. Some job interviews expect you to sit there and say, “Duh, what’s overtime?”

Helping someone who can’t work is one thing. Helping someone who just doesn’t want to bother is another.

Exactly how does the welfare system in Britain work? He’s been on the dole for ever.
