@Linguist Today’s strip IS funny , our Hero Mr Andrew Capp is quoting an inconvenient truth just like the immortal bard said “first kill all layers” ’ but that won’t save Andy from some time in the slammer :o) my avatar is a photo of me in multi layer clothes like I’ll be wearing soon because it has started to get colder earlier this year , come avete passato il vostro giorno mio meno vecchio di me amico? today is our friend bev’s wedding anniversary , our day should be busy but calm I hope , keep safe and a bientot pal
Makes me think of a parable (Matthew 7:5) — Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
There is a reason that the Sword of Justice is a straight sword with two edges. The Truth can and will cut both ways/sides with equal ease.
Andy is being very honest (and foolish) in telling the court that his own defence lawyer is a crook. In being equally honest about the judge, he’s making his bad situation much worse. He either doesn’t realize this or doesn’t care. Perhaps his mother-in-law is staying with him and Flo so he prefers a spell in jail.

I wonder what the judges wore before they took up the fancy 18th or 17th century wigs and robes?

If he’s asked what truth he can share about himself, Andy will say, ‘I need a drink!’

I had to look it up, as I never knew Andy’s spelling of the word “defence” is correct:https://www.grammarly.com/blog/defence-defense/

Andy should get rid of this lawyer and hire Horace Rumpole.

Do you Americanize the dialog for U.S. consumption? I don’t believe there are ‘lawyers’ in British courts.

No, no, no, Andy! It’s hold the truth, and everything but the truth!

Andy isn’t afraid to tell the truth, as long as it’s about someone else.
