Dashed balloons AND pidgin English. Isn’t that like…ohh…a double negative or someething? And the general speaks perfect colloquial English in solid balloons. Just when you think you have comics conventions all figured out…
The second panel has good advice for all cartoonists: Make snappy!
The dotted lines apparently indicate a translation, which makes Dessenay’s pidgin English all the more puzzling. But that’s the lingo most furrin characters employ in “Annie.” Is give this strip the boot.
Been checking out the Jazz Age strip. I see that Slampyak is perfectly capable of drawing
intricate backgrounds (buildings, modes
of transportation,etc.). Why not set the simpler lines of the Annie characters
against those intricate backgrounds every
now and then? The contrast can make for a very interesting visual. Maybe you can’t
do this on every panel,
but every now and then would make for a great look.

And Ollie is so jolly about having been “rescued” from the crazy bride lady?
I’m beginning to wonder how such a naive man got so dang rich and powerful.

Morning, Anniephans!
.
I’m still enjoying this story. I remember where it’s going now, but can’t wait to watch it unfold.
