L’ACADÉMIE DES ACOLYTES COMIQUES(The Academy of Comic Sidekicks)New York – Paris – FresnoLESSON #3: Time for Your Close-Up… sorta.Anyone who finds themselves playing Sancho Panza (Dean Emeritus, Class of 1605) to the star’s Don Quixote knows that their job is simply to bounce straight lines off Mr. and/or Ms. Big Shot, or get a laugh from the audience at their own expense. The general rule is not to upstage the star, not if you want to keep working. Common decency, however, insists that you will get your moment in the spotlight where you won’t have to say, “Holy (fill in the blank), Batman!” or take a pie in the face. Are you ready for that moment? Here we have an unusual situation, where several “second bananas” are lumped together in a story line, jockeying for attention. It is a delicate tightrope that is walked; you must be ready for a little growth while staying true to character, so the audience continues to recognize you. So, who gets to expand? Asp and Punjab? Probably not; they work for Warbucks, so they will likely remain as mysterious as ever. So, we will watch Freddie and the Colonel to see how – or IF – they grow in their roles. Of course, the downside of this is that the stars still have to put in appearances in the Sunday editions, so you’re never fully rid of them…
A good day to all readers.-————What could possibly go right with the vacation scenario? Nothing.-————Be healthy, wealthy and wise my friends.
