The family is outside playing catch. Gently, Gene tosses the softball to Janis underhand. He says, "Here, Mom!" A foot away, Janis smiles nervously with the ball in her hand. Gene says, "Nice catch!" Then, furiously, Gene uses all his energy and throws the ball. He yells, "Hey, Dad!!" Later, Janis and Gene give each other hi-fives. Arlo rubs his injured side and thinks, "I suppose I should be flattered, somehow."
