I used to work at Blue Cross of Northern California. There was an older gentleman who was experienced on the very old IBM 1410. His wife was evidently quite wealthy and when he would get his paycheck, he would simply stick it in his desk’s top drawer. Every now and then payroll had to convince him to cash his checks so they could write them off the books.

We kept using checks to pay bills (not income, we didn’t have a choice) a lot longer than we should have.
