Janis: It's got to be the heat!
Janis: It's so intense these days! No wonder the vegetables wither!
Arlo: Well, I know what they're getting at...
Arlo: But I think "greenhouse effect" is an unfortunate analogy!
My tomatoes are barely starting to ripen here in N Cal… we plant in April or May and harvest in August and September. The California drought is definitely affecting the huge agricultural area a couple of hours southeast, in the Central Valley, where most of the canning tomatoes in the US are grown and processed….though their season is almost over.
Arlo and Janis live on the Gulf Coast… but comics are drawn and submitted too far ahead to predict the weather!
Lucky Midwest. Here on the California Central Coast we had a total- year rainfall of just a little under 3 inches. The local lakes where where we get our water are down as much as 95% and the aquifer is so low that deeper wells are having to be dug. We are praying for a deluge.

Arlo and Janis get a lot of snow it seems for being on the Gulf Coast. Every winter there are mounds of the white stuff.

It doesn’t get any hotter than it used to, Janis. Most garden veggies LOVE the heat, you just have to water them!

Perhaps they should think outside of the box and install an underground soaker to water the garden.

Coolest July in recent history. Global warming is a moneymaking myth for the statists.

The past week in California, mid costal region, has been cool foggy mornings, mid 70s, with some trees already turning fall colors around town.
