It must be right on top of them. In Bandera, Texas you are closer to the sky and the lightening gets so close you can hear it hiss as it burns up the air. You can’t help but cringe like that when the thunder blasts you so hard you can feel it move through your body.

Perhaps all of us – in some small, deep spot that usually remains hidden – are still frightened children.

Yesterday, during a storm, something very strange happened to me. There was a nearby flash of lightning, and before the thunder sounded, the blue lights on my gaming keyboard turned on by themselves! Apparently the air in my apartment got electrically charged. It was spooky!

I love thunderstorms and rain. It’s hard to enjoy them when my dog is trembling nearby. She’s scared of even the lightest rain.

The 1.8 inches was most appreciated last night as we were officially in “severe drought”; but not so much south of us in Fruitvale, and its three tornados, or the disruption of Canton’s “First Monday” market. Van Zandt county is noted for First Monday and the fact that it seceded from the Confederacy and got away with it. Unfortunately, for little else.
