Wowsers. I can’t wait for the racists to post their stupid comments to flag them!
You guys do realize that Baldo can get even with them by dressing as an Aztec Warrior? All he needs is a loin-cloth and some feathers. Or he can also dress up as a revolutionary and scare the neighbors by walking around with bandoleers and a fake rifle. Maybe he dress up Gracie as Selena and shock Papi!
The women have pretty dresses, it’s not too bad for them.
Somehow there isn’t a German heritage month either. That would go badly wrong. But I would need a “messed up, probably very mixed family that doesn’t know its heritages because we are all in denial for being in our family at all” heritage.
there is a German Heritage time, not a whole month tho.
It’s called Okotober Fest. That is German, right?
Anyway, I love it. The German sausage and the dancing, oh man I missing the motherland and I’ve never been there. Its on my list of things to do when I get old and rich.

Newworldmozart, you’re right! We have Okotober Fest. here in Reno/Sparks, NV every year. I could not remember what the month and day it should be every year. My last name is full German but I have 1/4 of English, Irish, Scotland and German. I am very proud of that.
We don’t need German Heritage Month for the same reason fish don’t need Water Awareness Month. Even though we speak English, there are more Americans who can claim German ancestry than English, Scotch-Irish, Italian, Polish…
The thing is, beginning with WWI, German-Americans have been encouraged (even by other German-Americans) to downplay ties to the Fatherland (for obvious reasons). Unlike other ethnicities (like, say, the Japanese in WWII), Americans of German descent were far too numerous to put into internment camps, but in order to “prove” their American-ness they stopped speaking German in the home, stopped reading German authors (even in translation), stopped eating German foods… In some areas, Germanic place-names in America were changed. German was my 2nd-generation immigrant grandparents’ first language, but my Dad (3rd generation) was never encouraged to learn a word of it.

Yesterday Baldo looked like he came from a Mexican version of “Green Acres.” Today’s outfit is much cooler.

Is there a Heinz 57 heritage month? Or do I just get to celebrate them all?
