I myself have never eaten a chapulín before, but I know Andrew Zimmern has eaten chapulines.

I think, as of today, much more than one-in-five-americans’ ancestors were born outside the U.S.

Uh, we already have tons of legal immigrants. Sadly this theory of changing it to fried crickets will never work just because people come from somewhere else. The children of most immigrants just want to be typical Americans and don’t want to do the customs of their parents. I don’t look upon Germany as my home country even with my parents coming from there. I am American. I respect their ways, but my ways are the ways of the country I was raised in.

Daniel_bel: All are. Most of my gene pool blew over; most of my American ancestors came from those who walked and/or paddled over.

There was a time when all Americans were born outside of the USA. In fact, Van Buren was the first president who was born a citizen.

I wonder how those groups will vote in 2050?

rhtatro: The operative term was “Americans”. America runs from Ellsmere Island to Tierra del Feugo. “US” won’t cut it either as both Mexico and Brazil are United States in Spanish and Portugues respectively.

Ancestors is Not the same as present citizens, or residents. Which is too bad, because that means we have a higher rate immigarting that those being born here propotionately. As for asimilating American ways, there are some groups that resist learning those ways and the language (English), that’s why we have to push 1 for English and have multi-language documents which cost the taxpayers millions.
