Which is what caused my mother to give me very specific and detailed directions when she wanted me to clear the table after dinner. Otherwise, tomorrows lunch/supper might not make it to the fridge.

I may have mentioned it on this strip before, but my ex-BF used to make the best “Pantry Surprise”: kick the pantry door (fold-out and wobbly, the slightest movement rattled all of the shelves) and up to the first 6 edible items (cans or boxes) to hit the floor went into the pot. One night could be bowtie pasta with peas, kidney beans, tuna, minced garlic, and lemon-pepper seasoning. Another night was tilapia (from the fridge, of course, silly!) but with a crushed Ritz cracker, grated parmesan, and nutmeg coating with asparagus pieces and corn on the side. The amount of food would last for a few meals til payday. 95 percent of them were pretty tasty, and we were too poor to argue about it. Actually, I kind of miss those days.
