I just found a comment sitting in my comment box that I meant to post on yesterday’s Baldo. Oh well!
Just got back from a wonderful 60th birthday party for a friend of ours. A wonderful, sunny day, good food, a big bonfire and our friend who turned 60 is a musician, absolutely gifted on the piano. He has a building on their property that is the music room which is set up with amplifiers, drums, piano, etc. At least 12 musician friends were there and they all spent the evening jamming and I was very impressed with the talent at this party. Anyways, a great way to start off the weekend. **LilG’s pies were a hit.
Does everybody have special Easter plans? LilG are going stay close to home. Her mother is in CA staying with LilG’s brother and her two kids are far away, so it will be a quiet day for us. After two dinners out in a row, it will be nice to have a day to ourselves.
I have had a busy morning and will have a busy day. So much for a quiet day at home. Since LilG works so much she has chosen today as yard day and wants to move seven blueberry bushes and dig a trench for one last attempt at getting asparagus to grow here. None of the plants from last year survived.
Who knows Dry, but the asparagus never really got established. Our plans changed because it started to rain, so we ended up cleaning out the potting shed and consequently much of the garage.
A neighbor kid bent my slinky when I was a kid. It bothered me so much I threw it out. I am almost as bad as Mel and Fergus, but I can throw more out. I just cringe when I do it.
cleo I would have smacked that kid upside the head!
Lobster Tail, tasty? You BETCHA’! And so was my Long Island Iced Tea! And my asparagus, and my broccoli, and the salad bar! Went back for seconds. They had some kind of salad on the bar that looked like red potato salad. Instead it was some sort of apple salad, might have been Waldorf, which I’ve never had before because of the walnuts, but there were no walnuts in this, or nuts of any kind. Which teaches me, I have to really be more careful than I thought. Just like the time I got the cheesecake with the graham cracker crust THAT DID HAVE WALNUTS in the crust. Who would have thought? Cheesecake, you know?
Oh dear! I just went back to 2 Cows and a Chicken to read the comments, and Hopeandjoy’s family posted a comment on her behalf. It seems she has passed away. How very sad. First Carmy, now her. I didn’t know her, of course, but I did enjoy her comments, always full of hope and joy.
I thought at a time that it might be our Joy! I haven’t seen her post in awhile.
I love lobster, but haven’t had it much since I met LilG. Surprisingly she is not that fond of it. A decade ago I had a 3 1/2 pound lobster at a Lobster Pound in Maine on my 50th birthday. I ate the whole thing (excluding the shell and guts) sitting at an oil covered outdoor picnic table overlooking the ocean and the bridge that the place was named after (Trenton Lobster Pound). A simple place that served your choice of lobsters, arranged in aquariums according to size and cooked in huge pots over a wooden fire. The side was so-so coleslaw and your beverage from a cooler and maybe some unremarkable white bread. But the lobster was wonderful.
We ate at a GREAT seafood restaurant in Rye Beach, NH in 2007 on our whirlwind trip to NH. It was awesome and right on the harbor. Just went to their website for old times sake, and they have closed. The owner is now writing novels. Oh well, probably never would have gotten back there anywho. :-(
It always bothers me when a restaurant I really like closes. We had one here on my favorite stretch of scenic highway close, and a couple of years later it reopened and is just another same old same old place with no imagination. This has been a restaurant since the 30s or 40s and is right next to one of the best oyster and shellfish fields in the US. It isn’t tough to provide good seafood when you are the next door neighbor to the provider. :-(
Well, regarding your first comment, if the chef is good, they can usually do a lot with a little and make it taste right. Around here, we have about 5 really good restaurants, well good for this area, and it seems the chefs keep bouncing from one to the other. LOL! Seems there’s a “bidding battle” going on for the top chefs!
Most nuts seem to be in the desserts, and since I USUALLY don’t eat desserts it’s not a big problem. But when I bit into that salad that I thought was red potato salad, and turned out to be apples, I did a REAL CLOSE examination but of course, had there been walnuts in it, I would have immediately felt my throat close and my lips swell! And of course, I didn’t bring my Benedryl with me! In fact, I have stopped carrying it for the most part. Guess I better put some back in my purse, huh?
Yes but I hope not too big, you know? LOL! Like a fly in my french fries. That happened once, and it was a REAL UPSCALE restaurant too! Can you imagine? I believe it goes by the nickname “Mickey D’s”. LOL! Gee, I haven’t thought of that in years!

Oh my cleo, once an asparagus bed is established they live for years and years. What happened?

How very odd that I was thinking about her today as I was posting here and there and wondering where she was.

I get emails from our Joy sometimes, but you are right, she hasn’t posted for awhile.

I am sorry Dry that you have to pay such close watch to what you eat. It makes eating out a bit scary.

I think that we all consume a fair amount of creepy crawlers in our salads. I think of them as protein.

CLEO, EWWW!!!!!
Sadly, you are probably right. We actually take our lives in our hands anytime we go out, even in an upscale restaurant!
