“For some reason, she reminds me of a box kite.”++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++And so she does! Another very good reason to go inside to vent….or a strong gust of wind will carry her off!

(Perhaps she needs to make an appt. at the Ballard Orthopedic Clinic and Dry Cleaners for a hip & knee re-evaluation…and, I am concerned about those ankles as well.)

“So, when is this Halloween party supposed to happen? On the 31st? Or does someone really want to have it earlier in the week? I gotta order the dry ice you know. Gotta get it reserved in plenty of time. Can’t have a Halloween party without a punchbowl with dry ice. just sayin’………………………….”+++++++++++++++++++++++++++I would like to suggest that perhaps we can delay our Halloween/Samhain bash until next weekend? I’d hate to miss it, and without knowing how bad the incoming storm will hit us, on the eastern end of Ballard St., I can’t say for sure if I’ll be able to attend if the power is out for awhile. And, I have been practicing a new chicken dance (see avatar).

Hi Red. Lou’s version is very good but I kind of like The Nashville Teens version. The “jangly” guitar riffs give it a Garage Band feel about it that goes with the whole rural-white-trash-makes-good story line. FYI, Not withstanding their name, the Nashville Teens were one of the original British Invasion rock bands. I’ve always thought those bands did a tremendous job of reminding Americans what our Rock and Roll heritage was and ending that whole Dick Clark Philly Doo Wop musical miasma.

Sometimes I go out of town for Halloween but I haven’t heard anything about this year.

<And of course not too close to election day, cos I have so much to do that Monday and then work 16 hours Tuesday…but our party probably won’t be THAT late.

I just hope everyone is not too hard hit by the storm.

I used to give big chocolate bars when Cuddles was around and enjoyed all her visitors for Halloween, now I am baking fancy cup cakes for my favorite little neighbors and giving hard candy to others who come to my door only until I decide to go to bed (early). I no longer sit out in the front yard with a bird. Hard candy will save for next year when I decide to stop.

Your link just above that says “creature” doesn’t work for me…it goes to a page that says “We’re sorry, but your Gmail account is temporarily unavailable.”Were you trying by any chance to link to a pic in your own e-mail?That doesn’t work.If you were trying to link somewhere else…. oops.

AS for green tomatoes..there are never enough RED tomatoes, so I hate to kill any when they’re still babies.Every now and then one is downed by wind or by those dirty rotten little kids who run full speed through my garden even though I’ve asked them not to…and I’ve yelled, bribed, cajoled, threatened and ….oh…. sorry….off on a tangent….Anyhow…IF one or two are on the ground, and so green I’m pretty sure they won’t ripen in the house …THEN I eat them green…either fried or as part of something like chicken taco filling. Not totally crazy about traditional fried ones with cornmeal… you?

It looks like the East Coast is in for a storm on Halloween. We Might get snow here where I live. I still bought a pumpkin because I love the smell when the candle burns it. Usually I sit on the porch with a big old stogie if it’s not too unpleasant outside. Got my swamp cooler cover on yesterday. Last week’s snow melted off.

    @ beviek

The photos links aren’t working…both here and at the Village. I did a search on Lana Kane, simply because I was curious, but of course, now I still don’t know to whom you were referring at AC. Anyway, when I want to post photos from an email, I email them over to my free account at Photobucket. From Photobucket, I can then post them here. But….(sigh)….first you need to learn how to post pictures. Sorry, forgot…

Do not let those mile-long URLs scare you away!! I never really encountered any like that. But, if you can post links, you can definitely post pictures - it’s THE SAME PROCESS!!!!

First, type an exclamation point: !

Then, PASTE the URL (that you’ve already copied) right after the ! (no space).

Then, end with a: ! (no space)

AND STICK WITH URLS THAT END WITH .jpeg FOR NOW. If it comes out too big, delete and then just add : ‘width=’250! right after the jpeg

    G’mornin’ ….um…. afternoon? …. um….evenin’ to most of you…

Actually late afternoon even here…. but I haven’t had a chance to get back…

Bev…. even when you posted that URL the second time, the very beginning of it was “https://mail-attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment/?”…. not sure why it worked for you at all, cos that means it was an attachment in somebody’s e-mail..

Strangely, the pumpkin pic DID open, but it must have been a thumbnail…it was only 16×16 pixels…. way too small to see… and 16 dots by 16 dots isn’t enough resolution to see anything when magnified, either. For comparison, my avatar is 50 × 50 pixels.

Maybe that’s the same pic you said was pumpkins before?

Anyway, before you follow Stel’s instructions, if the picture is shown with the website “behind” it, it’s a good idea to right-click and select “view image” or “see picture” or whatever it says i Chrome.

In IE you have to click on what looks like a link to the picture…the idea is to get to a page that ONLY shows the picture…THEN copy and paste the URL, and put ! on either side of it.

But…. since I’m guessing you know how to copy the URL for the picture, so that you could post <a href="https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT9v_px9JueyF0dVq5Q2d9rzkr4G8DLZulNyrAtXiIZVFrOyZPKZA">creature</a>

    (which is actually <a href="Picture URL">creature</a>

ALL you need to do is take the URL itself, WITHOUT all the href business, and simply post it BETWEEN two exclamation points to post the actual picture instead of a link!

The URLs are running off the right side of page now because GoComics apparently changed the rules to allow long phrases and wider pictures to post in one piece.I’m a bit worried that some people will be posting GIANT pics because they won’t have to size them down.Meanwhile if a pic is over 360 pixels wide (right click it and choose "properties or “image info” to check) Stel showed one way to limit the width.

Another way is to use this bit of code: <img src="picture URL" width="360" /> The picture URL is what you copy in the address bar over the picture, the width can be anything up to 360 pixels wide to fit in the box here, and img src stands for image source.Just don’t put spaces after the equal signs, and DO put one between the URL (in quotes) and the width(in quotes). You can do it!It’s easier than making a link!

When somebody sends you a picture, and you see a teeeny box instead, that’s usually whatever symbol your browser displays when the link for one reason or another doesn’t work. For me in Firefox it’s a tiny blue square with a question mark, in IE it’s usually a red x…but sometimes in my e-mail if it’s a jpg it’s a tiny version of the little Windows icon for a jpg.

    Oh… sorry…. thought you left so I was e-mailing my sister….

Good job!Apparently avatars are 50 pixels wide, but the depth is in proportion to the shape when larger.

And larger is…um… yeah, a TINY bit more complicated… but not much. (I thought you didn’t want to know any more…. LOL)

When you go to the URL of the avatar you delete whatever GoComics put in front of the picture name…Like the word “large”, or "thumb"plus the underscore after it…

like the part of mine that says “/large_sunshine.jpg”becomes “/sunshine.jpg”

Then the URL will take you to the real pic.

Mine still isn’t very big cos Rodd made it 100 × 100 so the avatar would be clear.

This time I have to put in some tomato paste…. my own tomatoes and the local ones I bought have gotten too precious to use for sauce unless I accidentally let a few get overripe. When I was working at the farmer’s market I could sometimes take home extras for sauce if they had enough overripe ones…but it was hard to carry them even in my wheeled carrier.(it’s like a lightweight duffel bag, but sits upright on a light aluminum frame.)

It should be noted that if Susan should change her avatar (ya, like that’s goin’ happen) then the link will become invalid as GoComics only keeps the image of the current avatar. So if you like the avatar you should make a copy of the larger image.

    Oops….

Sorry if that wasn’t clear, Bev…But NO, you leave the whole URL in, EXCEPT (as X notes) you take out ONLY the word thumb or the word large, plus the underscore that follows it, ie thumb_

Large is the size used on the profile page, thumb on your forum comments…but the original picture is usually bigger than either.

    And ooops again…. yeah, x_tech, I think I was thinking of my profile page when I said it was 100 × 100...the original is 400 × 400.

Just hadn’t looked at it in a while.

That gives me room to mess with it, if I want to decorate it for a holiday…not sure I should do that to rOdd’s work…but I did already put it on a cereal box and in a daiquiri..

As for the quotation marks….You need them if you are using the full expression…which as I said is <img src="URL-in-quotes" width="desired-width-in-pixels-in-quotes" />

You DON’T need them if you use the shortcut of just putting the URL in between a pair of single exclamation points.
