Just back from the western end of Ballard St….I don’t mean the END end, as in terminus…
I mean the part of Ballard St. that runs through the west….
And for the last ten miles, we’ve been dodging flying cats!
And dogs started running alongside Elvis, urging him to join the Dog Front….They’d love to have him, even though he’s only about half dog…cos they don’t have many wheeled canines.
Apparently you’ve never seen Elvis, my dog car…he was quite generously lent, and then given, to me by StelBel…he used to carry guests for her at SCHAABS…Stel’s Canine Hotel And Antique Browser Store.
But now he carries me and all my stuff back and forth from California to central Ballard County, where the Tiki Bar is located, along with my hair salon, my pie shop, and many other Ballard Street businesses.
I knew a guy in college who liked to stick peas up his nose and then shoot them out. Other than that, he was actually a cool guy. Oh, and his lard-eating thing.
Sing along friends…..“All we are saying is give PEAS a chance”Don’t blame me Number Six got that stuck in my head now so I am going to stick it in yours…hahahahahahaha!
I have mentioned my mother’s attempts at cooking and the infamous Thanksgiving dinner where she served Swanson’s Turkey dinners, and my oldest cousin commented kindly “but Aunt Dottie, I LIKE crunchy peas!”.
Back in the day, there was a very popular notion, simply put, if you want to get along, go along. At the time few people understood this to be half way down the slippery slope. Now we see this seemly unconnected and inconsequential point of view has lead to social engineering on a grand scale. I’ll meet you in the middle, became and is now heralded by zealots as the place to be and the wave of the future. Ned has used this to his advantage, turned the tables and showed himself to be, that zealot of a different color. Shirley, the staff bearer, tender of the fire, secretary and acting treasurer of the Perennials Pageant, has purchased this notion, lock, stock and barrel. Shirley shed her pearls, washed away her polka dots, stepped up by stepping down and all she has to show for it is a ravening radical. Ned having received his master degree from the Dennis Rodman, Bad As I Want To Be, Institute of Behavioral Sciences after a illustrious career as Deacon in the Flip Wilson Church, Of What’s Happening Now; merely rolled over Shirley like the little child she was pretending to be. Today, pea splash, tomorrow broccoli paste, then horsing around, dental flossing, mustard designs, roll bouncing, straw squirting and host of other instant gratification conditionings Ned has come to love.
Not cold, I like my leftover beans warmed up in the micro with some wild rice mix. I make most bean dishes from scratch, but prefer to buy chili in cans (especially now that I buy vegetarian). Mine today had a little cooked parsnip mixed in too (because I had one I wanted to use).
I still find peas too bland for my taste, but like most veggies except okra. I don’t like anything slimy (even my oysters are baked).
There are 3 vegetables I will not eat. Peas, green beans and waxed beans.
One year in my lower teens, my Mom decided to plant green beans. Unfortunately, that turned out to be the best crop of any vegetable she decided to grow. We had them coming out of our ears. To this day, I don’t even want to look at a green bean.
