Looking at one’s shoes might be a bit less distressing than looking out on the present-day world…, but the view on Ballard street has to be interesting enough to keep Mike’s spirits up.
Bev….No, I suppose it doesn’t….But I wasn’t really looking at that as a negative….
I suppose if someone saved money by substituting looking at his shoes for drinking heavily, but missed all the headaches, he could spend another $1.99 on a cheap hammer, and bash himself on the forehead now and then….
It wouldn’t have to be a very good hammer just for that.
The Tiki Bar belongs to the Monkey…I’m only his night shift manager.
Some of the decor is tropical; other things come from his travels in far Turdmunkestan, and some from his visits to his old family home in Texmunkas..so he’s the only one who can decide whether to accept your generosity.
But thank you!
I was thinking, though…I’m pretty sure he’d like a small volcano for the back patio….it would make Friday Luau Night so much more authentic.
And if he doesn’t want it, I’ll put in in my yurt for a fireplace. There always seems to be more room in my yurt.
Dude…..Just flip on Nancy Sinatra….These Boots are Made for WALKING.And go with the flow.Have you up and trucking in no time. When that song is over start humming….The Bird.(Oh yea…..Bird is the word…..Ummaomao)Have a great Saturday ya’ll…GO HORNS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Both he and the dog look a little depressed. I only look at my shoes when I have some new ones that impress. I really would like to finish my red pair, but I’ve only given one class using them and purposely left the one shoe unfinished where I can easily show how the stitches work. I still have more of that lovely red lambskin, so I might do a more modern style ballet slipper flat (with just a small point for style). I was even considering adding a rose of that same leather. My sole leather needs to be softened before I use more should NOT have stored it in the garage.
I can’t remember last time I had a hangover (even if I drink too much). I don’t think clear stuff like gin GIVES one (or I may just be past that). I think the last time was drinking too many Manhattans – that’s a REALLY long time ago.
@Susan, the Red Shoe ballet music was good (and explanation of how the poster accomplished the save was interesting too).
I’ve been thinking of because I’ve not bought many shoes lately (just 2 pairs in 2012). With the facelift, I want to be thrifty about the rest, so I’m thinking just 1 pair of nice platform spikes in black or copper (or a combo) that would go with nearly everything for all my errands.
I don’t know what procedures are in dating these days (because I haven’t in decades) but now that my Chicago friend reminded me why I want to, when I do meet someone I will want assurance of recent blood tests etc. for STDs. With sufficient photos online I don’t expect I will need to meet more than one person because I know exactly what I want and I am exactly as I seem (even the facelift is mostly just to get rid of extra skin in my neck and plump my face from all the weight I’ve lost). My own blood work does not normally include those but is needed by the surgeon, so I will include with my next visit to the holistic doctor (he knows my plans).
After breakfast today I washed bed linens and tried on outfits for some upcoming Wild West days. My lovely red wool felt hat was in the garage so I cleaned that up and the game bird feathers on it and took off the pin to give it a good clean. I came across a shirt I made around 20 years ago or more with large white star appliques on blue satin and will wear with my new blue jeans from Marshalls (cheap). I even have a $5 gold sequin belt, so only my hat is $$. Actually, I’ll go find my boots too. They did not have size 7 in red, so I bought white and painted them (first wore those with hat back around 2001 to a company Christmas party at Rawhide)
Chet my friend, take heart. You and Rusty Boy have seen it all. Shirley’s prince, her trust and her hope. Why, you are the one who showed her the sun rising over the Atlantic and setting on the Pacific. There was the moon over Miami, gator on stick, chicken and rice and Thanksgiving twice a year. Put on a happy face and let those red shoes shine. You want some excitement, walk to the park with your eyes closed or take a rest; kick back never sounded so good. Loosen up, you have done all the hard stuff. You know there are still mountains to climb, rivers to run, walls to tear down, get up and go for it. Maybe, you’re right, pull the plug, get some handy wipes, double up on your vitamins, get a flu shot, duck and cover and hope for the best. Ballard Street isn’t going anywhere; it will be here when you get back.
Bev, sorry it’s been so long getting back to you, but I’ve been busy and getting busier, but I did want to touch base on My Stepmother Is An Alien, since it is one of a very few pictures released later than the 1960’s that I own.
One of the reasons why I like this picture so much (aside from Kim Basinger) is that it references Jimmy Durante material and specifically shows one of his scenes from the classic The Man Who Came To Dinner. Oh, and Dan Aykroyd was pretty good, too.
Dry…. the Tiki Bar IS never closed…..I doubt the Monkey could even find the key.
There will be times when you don’t see anybody you know…just like I don’t when I get here late at night….but the bar is open, the bartenders are on duty…. and you’re always welcome to come in and sit by the fire.
Unless, of course, it’s July or August… you’d probably rather sit by the air conditioner then. :)

Perhaps he should choose brown or black shoes…

It’s only since he bought those snazzy red shoes..
He never misses the Big Summer Sale at Ballard Soulful Soles…. (Super Shoes, Slippers, and Socks… )
They cost a pretty penny but think of all the hours of contemplation he gets out of them….They’re way cheaper than a year of cable TV.

Well, yes, Fenton…. I’m sorry…. I keep doing that to you.Of course I’m very very glad you’re still here!
And the toons, of course. Without them we’d have no business.
I fell asleep a while ago…. should go home to bed, but I wanted to clean the big grinder, and see whether anybody I know would like a nightcap…..

A bit fancy for my usual style…. ..but next time we have a birthday party, and I glitter my hair, I’ll have to wear them, of course.
I’m probably more likely to appear in the bunny slippers. :)
