I got a new Nook today, Husband put mine on the roof of the car when he was unloading after our vacation, and the next day drove off with it. He heard it fall off, but couldn’t find it. Tried to tell me the new one was an early Christmas present, but I’m not buying that!

I hope that’s Larry’s Mechanic’s Illustrated, and not Felicia’s new Ballard Life, or Martha Stewart Living!

You know, she was impressed, at first, with Larry’s contraption… as she usually is.

But… just as she’s had to forbid him from using his mechanical tea pourer with her mother’s bone china, she’s had to forbid him from using the page turner on her special magazines….

I’ve been dozing off…. should be in bed…but at long last I can say good morning!Well…. IF you refresh and read it.

And I wrote you a long reply on this forum a couple of days ago…

Got about 8 – 10 inches overall yesterday. We and our upstairs neighbours are the only ones in this six-plex who don’t have cars and my hubby and that hubby are the only ones who shovel. Go figure.

As a child, Larry was a wiz at the Erector-Set.

Whoever invented books should get a gold dictionary!…..

Wouldn’t it be easier to just turn the pages yourself? Just sayin’. :-D

Hi Dry and Dusty!Are those sets like Mechano sets? That’s what my BIL used as a boy.

I’ve got a big box of Meccano in the basement — half mine from the 1950’s, half Dad’s from the 1930’s. Dad and I would hunker down on the floor together and build stuff. He would have been 95 tomorrow — miss you Dad!

By the way, the seasonal movie “The Man Who Saved Christmas” is a Hollywood enhanced biography of A.C. Gilbert, the inventor of the Erector Set.

And by coincidence, they’re discussing the (A.C.) Gilbert Chemistry Set over on Lio!

I never heard of Mechano sets. Kids toys are awfully limited these days compared to when we were kids. They are more restrictive and not conducive to using the imagination!-——————Okay, so I can’t spell. At least not like a commercial company spells. sheesh! I just never saw the word in writing before. Mechanic, Mechano. That’s my line of thinking.(I need a screwdriver and some nuts and bolts).

Not too bad… though, I apologise, but I prefer Fenton’s…right now they’re being made with fresh squeezed juice from the 200 pounds of sweet Valencia oranges that the Monkey shipped back from Texmunkas.

I’ll make sure you get one of those, too. Or two.And X… I’ll save you one of each, to compare…. :)

Happy, that looks a lot like my old Erector set…. even in the 50’s the cases looked antique.I never got too ambitious with mine… I built some stuff, but I was only about 8, and found all the little screws and nuts tedious… and that teeny bent wire screwdriver….no relation to those Smirnoff ones…Later, overseas on an Air Force base, I played with Meccano. Seem to recall it as a bit more colorful, and less flimsy.

Good to see you on Ballard St, JP Steve…. and yeah… articles…. I’m sure there are some in there….

Legos are still around, and quite good for kids’ imaginations. My sons made some pretty neat things with them, and played together for hours with those. The only downfall was all the little pieces one would occasionally step on in your bare feet! Those little suckers sure hurt! :-D

Um… I still love MY Legos…Not a set, just a bunch of pieces collected over the years.No fancy stuff, cos they’re old…Still, I have to keep them out of sight so I don’t play with them. And until they got ridiculously expensive, I liked to get one of the little stocking stuffer or basket filler type packets with one figure or vehicle in them, and put it together without opening the bag, then give it to a kid.

Yes, I had very few toys as a child (2 dolls, 2 stuffed animals, some blocks and marbles) but I got a scooter until my bike in 4th grade and kids of all ages played together outside (follow the leader, hide and seek etc). My first injury was from follow because I fell off a wooden crate I was using to climb after the bigger kids and fell with head in basement window. . .

No cracks about my mind, please- LOL!

Believe me, it’s easier than writing one. :)
