JOE Although Barney is learning slowly from Clyde. his looking at his watch (on Sunday) indicates he has a far way to go. I am looking forward to watching Barney grow and maybe grow a little with him.
Barney doesn’t understand the joke in the comic that he is reading and lets Clyde know. Clyde explains to Barney that the interaction between the characters is amusing without a punchline.
Barney tells Clyde that the reader of the comic might feel cheated without a punch line. Clyde assumes that they don’t feel cheated.
Then they both stand in what appears to be an uncomfortable silence, without a punchline, which makes today’s strip both humorous and ironic!

The reader DOES feel cheated if the interaction is not amusing.
