We’ve seen indications that Lucretia isn’t stupid, the evidence above notwithstanding. It’s possible that she’s never bothered to develop her mind, though, since she’s capable of getting along quite well without it. As I once heard it put, “If I can get an ‘A’ without trying, why should I bust my hump working for an ‘A-Plus’?”
Barney has explicitly referred to Lucretia as a “trophy wife” from time to time (maybe not recently), and Lucretia has also wondered whether her sole reason for marrying Barney was his money. But I admire the cartoonists for making her not just a trophy wife (if she were, her appeal as a character would have faded quickly). However their relationship started, there’s some depth to it at this point.
