Good history lesson here. and I’m glad she mentioned that it was a socialist that wrote the declaration to the flag. The media has tried to make us fear the word (socialist) for near around 60 years. In fact many of the things that make America great has been Socialist in nature; the now neglected hiway system, the park services, free and public libraries, The GI bill, that let $1000s of young servicemen be able to get college degrees, Social security, many other good things.
I grew up overseas, so I never had to recite the pledge. The “under God” statement is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it shows allegiance to a deity (so, is this promoting one religion over others?). On the other, it subtly tells children that U.S. governments will act “under God” and so they’re justified a priori. Nice piece of propaganda!
Everyone has a comment that they believe is correct. How many have taken up a rifle to defend that flag? I have. U.S. Marine Corps (1964-67). Chu Lai, Vietnam (‘66-67)! I helped to secure my right and your right to do as you believe is correct. Therefore, I’ll pledge allegiance any damn time that I want to!

And “under God” was only added in 1954- at the height of the “Red Scare.”

I was punished in Kindergarten because I didn’t want to say the pledge… it was a religious school so the ACLU had no say in the matter.
