A seminary teacher who teaches Biblical Hebrew once said that if a student asks him if there’s anything that really helps in learning the language that he would recommend, his answer always is “Practice.”
If only we automatically retained the languages of our parents and grandparents. I’d speak French, Norwegian, Gaelic and Mi’kmaq. My husband would contribute Finnish, Italian, English, Portugese and maybe Gullah. Our son would be multilingual.
