Yep, she was right. He is so focused on himself he has dug a rut of being a victim to life. She was actually giving him a chance to think of some one but himself; he failed that test too.
So, there is an equitability issue here – certainly Betty should have the opportunity to talk about her day and Bud should be willing to listen. However, it is pretty clearly the case that Bud has a much more emotional issue with his day – the purpose of most rants is a form of release. Betty seems to just want discussion – it seems unlikely she can have that until Bud has had a chance to “decompress”. So – I get her point, but don’t think much of her methods.
