Can I please have an order of Grog’s scrambled eggs with sausage, some hash browns, Johanan’s CocoMocha and a thermos of Doc’s World Famous Nuclear Coffee?
Let’s see….I think I’ll have scrambled eggs with bacon, a Philly cheese (for lunch) a Ribeye (for dinner) a twelve pack of Pepsi and a 6 pack of Bud for later.
LADYWOLF you got me all confused (That’s not hard). I read the breakfast beverage menu and thought that was it. Oh well, haven’t done beer for breakfast in years. Then I thoughtDOC’S NUC COFFEE might be better for me (better for my health than SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED finding me drunk on the kitchen floor). Then I saw DIGITAF FROG’S capital suggestion of cold pizza. As usual, I’ll have all the leftover deserts the piggies haven’t eaten.
Morning TRIBE AC man says I’ll have my new tranfamongulator in a week or two for only $7000. Taught me a trick with an ice cube and a hand fan.
quick note to Ladywolf re: Pete reading the “memoirs” to Dusty. memoirs are meant to be read, so i don’t think Stucco would mind. now, if it was Stucco’s diary …
Good morning, tribe!
Let’s see… the good news is my finger where I got stung by a wasp is almost back to normal. Just a few extra wrinkles where the skin got stretched when it was swollen.
Lew - How did your a/c infect mine? Ours is set for 79, up to 83 already. We’ve got a geo-thermal system, so we watered the underground grid overnight. But since that didn’t help, had to put a call in for service. Not too many people have geos around here, so have to wait for a technician familiar with those. I hope he’ll come today, especially because the high is expected to be 97F. I dug a couple of portable fans out, so I won’t melt while I’m waiting. I certainly hope it won’t cost nearly as much as your bill to fix our system!
haven’t read the links yet, but i feel the need to note that my part of Canada is on the same (approximate) latitude as San Francisco. that stuff about the border being on the 49th parallel is only in western Canada. i have to drive nearly 3 hours north to get to the 45th parallel (and Santa’s Village in Bracebridge - his “summer home”).
Rmom…..good luck with your geo system. First I have heard of that kind of a/c and heat system. Hubby said they are very reliable…….does it work on the principal that the ground temp is constant? or does it work with underground springs?
Some info would help.
In the meantime, I’ll have some of Doc’s Nuclear coffee with a cantelope half on the side.
MTLady - Ours work on the principal that the ground temp is around 50F. We’ve got a soaker hose buried with the grid, so we can soak the dirt, because when it gets too dry, it will pull away from the tubing with coolant. It is pretty efficient. No noisy outside unit which is nice, especially since nothing is exposed to hail storms or cottonwood “cotton”. Our grid is all buried at about 6 feet deep - taking up a good sized chunk of yard, but since we have 5 acres, it is no big deal. I’ve heard that other geo systems (especially with less acreage) have vertical shafts instead.
Rmom thanks for that info. Very interesting! Our downstairs is very cool in the summer, and that’s where we escape at night to watch a movie. We have no a/c….no need for it. We have forced air heat, but find our wood burning stove and a fan heats the whole upstairs living area VERY well.
DocToon….I spent my time getting to know the pulse of this group of commentors……good community!
okay. it was nice to drop in and catch up on all the strips (i have GOT to stop missing a week at a time - catching up takes all my “chat” time) and i’ll probably drop by tonight, but, for now, i have chores to do before work. c u
(((Tribe)))
Good late morning here too late for good morning sign.
Rmom I know what one means about cottonwood. Our central here we found out is older then the house. It’s above ground have to keep grass and weeds pulled away and hose down once in a while. Had the unit worked on once a year now since being here. Have to save up money hard to do with hubby being retired and me only pt.
Went to Dr.’s today about lab results good and bad cholesterol look okay, I made a suggestion about cheaper meds so far it works, sad part sugar part is too high. I don’t drink much pop. take caffeine free tea to work. Stopped peanuts, now have to quite oatmeal cookies. Soon be lunch time for me.
Rmom I forgot and didn’t want post too much longer. I was one of many who wished you a HB. Enjoyed your middle age joke a lot are me, I am older then you by 4 years, you missed one though sleepless nights.
Sleep well, Doc!MTLady - In KS the only place that’s semi-cool in the summer would be in a basement, and even that won’t stay in the comfortable range without some sort of a/c. When it stays in the 90’s or 100’s for days at a time, it is downright miserable without a/c. (I’ve done it before, so I know of which I speak.)
We’ve got a wood stove, but it wasn’t part of the original design of the house, so only the area right around the stove is warm (or hot), but doesn’t keep the whole upstairs comfortable. We just use it for power outages during the winter.
Kab - I took them from a list of jokes I received before the turn of the century. (Boy, does that make me sound old!) I don’t have insomnia too often, but I do have to make that middle-of-the-night trip to the bathroom that I didn’t have to do when I was younger.
Algebra. Try doing it over the phone from 1200 miles away.
Took about 6 weeks and suddenly the light went on for my granddaughter and it was clear sailing from there.
My daughter found for computer Alge-Blaster and sadly I can’t use it floppy disk not sure it one can convert over to CD rom. Rmom I know what you mean about BR that’s my best friend since taking muscle relaxer pills. Effects my thinking skills to.
Hi, Sojo. It is over work wise unless I really press the issue. I can’t work on the car in the garage for lack of parts and it is raining outside. I would have to push the one out of the garage to get the other one in. I’m still debating! lol
Kab Doing ok. my day’s almost done and tomorrow is an early start.
Lonewolf looks like the rain has passed you. You should be good to go if you really want to do it.
It’s 96° with heat index of 99°, no rain until poss. T-storms Sat. Will try to mow lawn Fri. Had a falt on mower that was fixed yesterday, hopfully it will stay inflated. At least no A/C problems like some at BT!
Kab - Probably won’t help me. It would depend on what level of Algebra. There’s pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra 2, College Algebra… (We’re doing 2.) I’ve got a CD to go with the textbook, so that helps some. The biggest problem is that we’re doing logirithms which require scientific calculators. But different brands of calculators work differently, so it is a real guess to know which buttons to push and in what order.
I am torturing them on and off. They (niece and nephew) are quietly playing their computer game in the bedroom. Maybe I should do something drastic? Turn off the TV?
Bye RwB - I used a slide rule in high school and college, still have the one from college with instruction book! LOL (The SR-71 Blackbird plane that holds all alt. and speed records was designed with slid rules)
Hi, Terry!RwB - I’ll pass on the slide rule. I didn’t take this level back when I was in H.S., so never learned how to use one.
A/C cost $439 for today’s visit, however something needs replaced that will cost a couple thousand, maybe more if that doesn’t solve the leak.
Rmom - That’s too bad there is something wrong with your A/C and will cost a lot to fis it. It’s sad that you and Lewreader are having to deal with that.
Sojo - We’ve had our system for 15 years, so something wearing out happens. What is the pits is that they don’t make the type we have anymore, so they’ll have to put in something different if that chunk is the problem. (I don’t understand all of it, my hubby’s the engineer, not me.) At least the tech was able to add some coolant today, so it will work for now. But there is a leak somewhere, so it is just a matter of time…
Luv - A friend of mine is a math prof at the college my son goes to, and it took her several tries with the calculator to get the results the problem is supposed to have. I’d have to have help specific to the brand & model of my calculator. We’re on the 8th to the last lesson in the book, and he already passed the math entrance test for college, so if he doesn’t master it, I’m not too worried. He’ll be taking College Algebra in the fall, and the community college is great with helping the students if they need it. (Free tutoring is available, low prof-to-student ratio, etc.)
I am torturing them on and off. They (niece and nephew) are quietly playing their computer game in the bedroom. Maybe I should do something drastic? Turn off the TV?
Best plan: wait until it gets exciting or intense in the game, and then pop the circuit breaker!
An elderly lady on a cruise ship goes into the bar and orders a Scotch with two drops of water. The bartender thinks it’s kind of odd, but gives it to her. She tells him, “I’m on this cruise to celebrate my birthday. I’m 80 years old today.”
The bartender says, “Well, congratulations! Since it’s your birthday, this drink is on me.”
When she finishes her drink, the lady to the right of her says, “I’d like to buy you a drink, too.”
“Thank you,” says the birthday girl. “I’ll have another Scotch with two drops of water.”
“Coming right up,” says the bartender.
She finished that drink and the man on her left says, “Can I guy you a drink, too?”
“Sure,” she says. “I’ll have another Scotch with two drops of water.”
As the bartender gives her the third drink, he says, “Ma’am, I’m dying to know why you’re ordering Scotch with just two drops of water.”
The octogenarian says, “Sonny, when you get to be my age, holding your liquor is no problem. Holding your water, on the other hand, is a whole different matter.”
The good news about middle age is that the glass is still half-full… of course, the bad news is that it won’t be long before your teeth are floating in it.
RMOM Think of how low our electric bills are going to be this month with no AC. Oh well, think of how miserable it would be in January with no heat. Oh well, think of how SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED has to treat me with some respect, at least till I write that $7000 check. “If you were a real man you’d take those tools you bought and fix it yourself.”
Don’t say one word against slide rules. When I began my illustrious (that’s one word for it) college career, a Texas Instrument calculator cost $170. Excuse me, tuition was $230. I looked like a geek but I’d raise my hand and shout “Yes sir, 2.38 times 10 to the16. So I was off a few thousandths. Kept me on the Dean’s list. Kept me single.
Lewreader - I don’t think Texas Instrument calculators were around when I went to college (or were just starting). Your status as a geek was how large your slide rule was! I could only afford the average large type but not the do everything ones.
I was working for Radio Shack when the first Texas Instrument “Calculator” came out. It had 2 inch high readout tubes, had the footprint of about half a typewriter ( about the size of a notebook computer for those too young), had 4 functions + - X / and cost $199.95. AND you had to plug it in.
There’s my history lesson for the day class.
I bid you goodnight.
Stay Safe (((TRIBE)))
I worked at a company that used an adding machine with one of those handles on it. The IRS was about to really do a number on the company for fraud or somthing like that until everyone found out that the calculator added a certain combination wrong and the company was not intentionally making mistakes on their taxes!
Lew - We’re not going without a/c for long enough here to save on our electric bill. It just runs longer the more the coolant leaks out.
I don’t dare say anything against slide rules, my father-in-law (retired electrical engineer) might cut us out of his will or something.
Just got back from supper, hubby’s home tonight, but won’t be tomorrow since he’s working Saturday. He had to run some parts to town, and now he’s trying to figure out why the truck he just bought is starting to smoke oil. Oh, the fun that comes with buying used vehicles…
Dry, at the top of this page you can click on “Read More” to find out more about the Comic-Con. I read about Ferrell, Depp and Angelina being there on Google News. It just started today, it runs until Sunday.
At last years Comic-Con there in San Diego, Tom Gammill (The Doozies) posted several clips from the convention. I remember seeing Mark Tatulli (Lio) in one of them.
I try to follow the comicscon postings when I see them over the years. I think I did see that one! I would love to meet some of these cartoonists! Comments are made many times about Family Circus, many unflatering, but Bil Keane has been around almost as long as Charles Schulz was and Family Circus is considered a classic strip. It’s also one of the most widely circulated in the world.
Alien Invasion
The President was awakened one night by an urgent call from the
Pentagon. “Mr. President,” said the four-star general, barely to
contain himself, “there’s good news and bad news.” “Oh, no,”
muttered the President, “Well, let me have the bad news first.”
“The bad news, sir, is that we’ve been invaded by creatures from
another planet.” “Gosh, and the good news?” “The good news, sir,
is that they eat reporters and pee oil.”
Red haired schoolteacher
The tourist had lost his way on a back road and stopped at the farmhouse to ask if he could be put up for the night. ‘Well, we’re a mite crowded, since there’s already someone in the spare room,’ replied the farmer. ‘But I guess you can stay if you don’t mind sharing the bed with a red haired schoolteacher.’
‘Look,’ said the tourist, ‘I want you to know I’m a gentleman.’
‘Well,’ mused the farmer, ‘as far as I can tell, so is the red haired schoolteacher.’
Put Your Jacket on Backwards
Two bikers were riding down a country road on a Harley. The driver’s
leather jacket wouldn’t stay closed because the zipper had broken, so he
pulled over. “Just put your jacket on backwards,” his buddy suggested.
Then they zoomed off down the road, until they hit a curve at high speed
and crashed. A farmer found them and called the police.
“Is either of them showing any sign of life?” asked the officer.
“Well, the first one was” replied the farmer, “until I turned his head
around the right way.”
My mother has always said that if you don’t have anything good or funny to say, then don’t say anything. I’ve learned that one for sure. I like to laugh!!
Good evening and folks not sure how long I will be up. I don’t live anywhere near CA or where comics com is. I have always enjoyed Family Circus very clean. Bill Keane is a widow his beautiful wife passed away I think last year what the paper had. I wonder how many from Gocomics will be there I know one will has stated.
Rmom thanks for the heads up about Alegbra. Sorry to inform you but a lot of KS schools starts middle of August. I know when you hopefully read this will be Friday.
Lonewolf my dad would always say if you don’t have something good to say then don’t. My mom on the other hand does. I don’t like to hurt others feelings but wow do I get trampled on from others.
If anyone is hungry for a light snack and I’m no way competing against Ladywolf buffett breakfast style.
I also like good jokes. I especially liked middle age jokes as I’m there and someone missed one type BR being a good friend. A lot of them apply to me.
I agree about laughter but lately I have found too much to laugh about.
I talked with a x-ray tech/nurse about my future plans and applying for a few positions and she told me won’t work. Medical place she works out and divisions are only hiring young college people with degrees. They start low and have to work up.
Ladywolf when you get all you college courses done you will be snatched up.
By the way Ladywolf not trying to embarrasse you I don’t know about your other BT friends I would like a sample of your short stories. I notice others have posted so very funny jokes and stories. I would also like to read some dum criminal acts as they are a plenty. Some have happened here.
Lonewolf you are right I also thought of photob this way if someone is interested without giving ones email address out that can be done over photob and let the ones who would like to read Ladywolf short stories can.
It’s almost midnight here and I have enough trouble with sleeping. So I’m gonna give it a try. My best times are in mornings not 3rd shift. So goodnight to both you late owls. Yea tomorrow is Friday.

Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Hi, Terry! RwB - I’ll pass on the slide rule. I didn’t take this level back when I was in H.S., so never learned how to use one. A/C cost $439 for today’s visit, however something needs replaced that will cost a couple thousand, maybe more if that doesn’t solve the leak.
George Arnold over 14 years ago
Rmom - That’s too bad there is something wrong with your A/C and will cost a lot to fis it. It’s sad that you and Lewreader are having to deal with that.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Sojo - We’ve had our system for 15 years, so something wearing out happens. What is the pits is that they don’t make the type we have anymore, so they’ll have to put in something different if that chunk is the problem. (I don’t understand all of it, my hubby’s the engineer, not me.) At least the tech was able to add some coolant today, so it will work for now. But there is a leak somewhere, so it is just a matter of time…
Ooops! Premium Member over 14 years ago

~ Elderly Joke ~

JOKE ALERT
Alien Invasion The President was awakened one night by an urgent call from the Pentagon. “Mr. President,” said the four-star general, barely to contain himself, “there’s good news and bad news.” “Oh, no,” muttered the President, “Well, let me have the bad news first.” “The bad news, sir, is that we’ve been invaded by creatures from another planet.” “Gosh, and the good news?” “The good news, sir, is that they eat reporters and pee oil.”

JOKE ALERT #2!!
Red haired schoolteacher The tourist had lost his way on a back road and stopped at the farmhouse to ask if he could be put up for the night.

JOKE ALERT #3
Put Your Jacket on Backwards Two bikers were riding down a country road on a Harley. The driver’s leather jacket wouldn’t stay closed because the zipper had broken, so he pulled over. “Just put your jacket on backwards,” his buddy suggested.
Then they zoomed off down the road, until they hit a curve at high speed and crashed. A farmer found them and called the police.
“Is either of them showing any sign of life?” asked the officer.
“Well, the first one was” replied the farmer, “until I turned his head around the right way.”
