Ladyhawk, I almost added my name but… What kind of costume would that be? I have started a list of my various names on my profile. I don’t think I remember them all anymore.
EIDo Disc Golf - I used to be a bicyclist and not a racer, although I did come in third in a race. After real races were over they held a fun race for non-racers. No one wanted to enter. As there were items donated by bike shops for winners I decided why not. If I was the only one I had to come in first! Since I entered two other people decided to enter. That’s why I took third place.
Hi, tribe!Wolfie - Sounds like a really short day for you! I’m glad you were able to get some rest last night.
Luv - You confused me for a while, too. At first I thought Runs With Beer had gotten on the wagon.
I had a new experience for me today - I felt an earthquake! Of course, it was very mild, but I’ve never ever felt one before. It was centered near Norman, OK. My brother who lives in OKC said he was in his car, and didn’t even notice it. I was sitting at my computer on the 2nd floor, and first thought maybe we got a strong wind gust, looked outside and decided that wasn’t the reason. Then I thought maybe the washer’s spin cycle was shaking the house. But then I remembered I wasn’t doing any laundry! My sons in the basement said they didn’t feel anything. I was glad to find out that it was an earthquake - I was worried I was getting another dizzy spell, and I have been hoping I was over those.
Hi Rmom - Interesting to hear. What does occure around here is usually quite small. Years ago my dad felt one but I never have. I did fell the house shake (and heard) when the grain elevator blew up. It was about ten miles away and shortly after the Okla. City bombing. Glad it wasn’t a dizzy spell!
Wolfie - I don’t know that I would call it a “pleasure” - but I was relieved when I found out what it was. It was only about a 4.3 earthquake, so pretty mild.
Sojo - I remember when the Garvey Grain Elevator blew up, but I don’t remember if I felt any shaking from it. I used to drive past it almost every day for a few years.
Luv - The only problem with mailing chocolate right now, is unless they’re M&M’s they might get pretty gooey. Our highs are in the 70’s this week.
El Disc, does that mean that because it is an effort for me to be responsible it is a bad thing? (confoozled now)
Sojourner, that is a good question. Maybe I shouldn’t take the car in for an oil change? It has only been possibly two or three years since the last one.
Luv and all others: My son brought home word on Rissa from her sister. She is in recovery and feeling ok, but they won’t have any diagnosis type results until tomorrow or Friday.
I have yet to feel a natural earthquake–but I did feel plenty of artificial ones. I used to live about a mile from the (then) largest limestone quarry on earth, and when they bring down a couple hundred thousand tons of limestone, things are gonna move! (Probably Richter scale 3 or 4, but not much more.)
boo-monk - I think I’ve felt the earth move from artificial forces before. I used to live very close to I-135 (back yard fence belonged to KDOT.) So when the jackhammer was used to break up the old concrete, I’m pretty sure the house shook, too. But I heard the noise to go with it, so it wasn’t as puzzling.
Hi, Sojo, Ladyhawk, â™ Lonewolfâ™ , KoB, and Rmom!
I also felt the ground shake when a chemical plant exploded one day–I think that one was about 10 miles away. Can’t find a reference anymore…can’t remember enough details…
I don’t remember when it occured but the show was several years ago. It was an a remote area (to a degree). If it was in ND that would fit. It was a chemical plant and there aren’t many that have had that much destruction so I’m sure it was the same one. The only other accidental explosion / destruction in the US I can think of that was larger was years ago. An oil refinery on the gulf coast.
Then it might be different but I’m not sure. Grog - What you mentioned might of been what I mentioned but I can’t remember either one good enough to know for sure.
Grog - What I was thinking of was this: Texas City Disaster
On 16 April 1947, the SS Grandcamp, loaded with 8,500 short tons (7,700 t) of ammonium nitrate, exploded in port at Texas City, Texas. 581 died, over 5,000 injured. Using standard chemical data for decomposition of ammonium nitrate gives 2.7 kilotons of energy released.[11] The US Army rates the relative effectiveness of ammonium nitrate, compared to TNT, as 0.42.[12] This conversion factor makes the blast the equivalent of 3.2 kilotons of TNT. This is generally considered the worst industrial accident in United States history.
Grog - I Think this is what you mentioned: October 23, 1989: Phillips Disaster. Explosion and fire killed 23 and injured 314 in Pasadena, Texas. Registered 3.5 on the Richter scale. Here fo details
boo-monk - This might be it: June 28, 1988: Auburn, Indiana, improper mixing of chemicals kills four workers at a local metal-plating plant in the worst confined-space industrial accident in U.S. history; a fifth victim died two days later.
I might find info on it later for myself out of curiosity. I’ve made enough comments already on this. Aperently I have too much time on my hands. Thanks for the info Grog, it will give me something to check out. :-)

Rmom, That Oklahoma tremor made my ears perk up since the New Madrid fault is always threatening to be active again having something so near makes one wonder.
The last tremor from a non-natural event we experienced was when we were in London for a semester and the underground ran under our flat. When was quiet in the wee hours, we could feel a slight tremor of the High Street Kensington tube and even hear it running on the rails. During normal daytime activity we were not aware of it. It would make me feel slightly dizzy.
Rmom - What some people, especially younger ones, don’t realize is what they put on it is there forever somewhere. Many employers now check it when checking out potential employees. What they did on spring break and told someone may keep them form getting a job!
Hope&joy - I know about the New Madrid fault, but I was a little surprised there was an earthquake close to Norman. I guess I always thought earthquakes happen where it isn’t so flat.
Sojo - I know I’m glad there wasn’t MySpace or Facebook when I was young & stupid. At least with my sons not being into socializing, they don’t care about the social networking sites. That doesn’t mean that as a good parent that I don’t google their names once in a while just to make sure they’re not up to something I didn’t know about!
Hello everyone I had an interest day. I will try to be brief. I’m off for Thursday maintenance is shampooing office carpet. Everyone has to leave at 2:30 so no since me going in for 1 1/2 hour. Boss was transferred last part of September.
I contacted tech support this morning on printer had one then lost them this blasted lap top.
When I got home I finally talked to someone from MS Office.
If you remember I asked all what to have done where MS Word would print on new printer.
I gave bad word to our daughter’s guy. Found out from reps at MS Office what he ordered from EBay is bootleg. I was not expecting this I was expecting real software not bootleg. So Daughter’s guy is contacting eBay and guy he bought from for money back. Now waiting for confirmation from either MS Office or Jr. college so I can pay for software. Like I said what a day.
I remember (for what it’s worth considering some of my earlier comments) about a large earthquake in China that caused a large loss of life. Everyone was supprised as there were no faults in the area. All the geologists could say was that sometimes that happens and they didn’t know why.
Hi, Kab!
I was glad I happened to read about it on the Eagle’s website shortly after it happened, or I wouldn’t have known what it was that I felt. My sons were in the basement, and said they didn’t feel it. It wasn’t much movement, if I didn’t have my leg against the side of my desk, I’m not positive I would have noticed it.
I didn’t know it happen until I heard on news. Admin Assist heard from someone at the court house they felt it there. What time was it?
How long have you been in KS Rmom? I have a great reason for asking here’s why, my kids where at school we lived in my hubby’s mother’s house she I can’t remember was alive or not. Not far from Clearwater is a giant grain silo’s. There were people who died from that. Friction created a massive explosion, that explosion was felt clear across Wichita. Where we lived this explosion missed us.
Rmom good night to you I will be turning in shortly. Do you remember not far from Clearwater grain elevator? That Hugh explosion blew out those silos killed 3 or 4 guys.
I will be waiting for Jr. college for student software. My daughters guy will watch it next time he orders. He is planing to notify ebby on this matter.

Hi Kab.

Those grain elevators where blown out news had a field day report this massive event of danager.
