I was planning on going to Galveston this morning, but it is a miserable windy cold & wet morning here. The high is only supposed to into the mid-50’s Boy did my house cool off fast. Yesterday the temps were in the mid-80’s.
I think I’ll stay home, stay warm and eat more tur-duc-hen.
Good morning!
I think I’m going to be like Grog and stay away from the stores today. My hubby is spending the day with an old friend from high school. I’m not invited, which is fine by me. So, I think I’ll putter around here, work on getting our Christmas cards & letters prepared, and snuggle up with my book.
Hi, Doc!
I figured you’d be in bed by now. I got up earlier than I planned, because it was hard to go back to sleep with my hubby getting ready to leave for the day. I had hoped to be getting up about now.
I knew there ws something I should be doing today, not that I really want to work on the Christmas cards. But I may as well get something done besides reading comics on this dreary day.
Sleep well, Doc!
Hi, Sojo! Good to see you!
Grog - I didn’t send out my usual mailing last year, since I was swamped with handling my mom’s stuff. So I thought I ought to send mine out on the early side this year.

I hope everyones yesterday Thanksgiving was great. I guess my main family plans on one Sunday. My daughter’s guy is working today and Saturday, he works as a driver delivering parts to different customers, he and other workers were warned would not be busy but place he works at wants to service customers who need auto parts.
Instructor is letting us have an extra credit assignment. I will be working on. Then try to fit another one. One is due by Dec 1st and use of internet with theme. Don’t know if I will pass this subject.
I have no plans to go with the crowds. We draw names here my name has something simple yea.
And I will go only so far to eat healthy as well. There’s a fairly long list of vegetables I refuse to eat which include but are obviously not limited to green beans and peas.
I also am not a big fan of Mexican, French or Italian cooking.
Grog - Reminds me of my sons and myself. However, rice pudding wouldn’t be one of the things we’d take, we’d rather skip dessert entirely! Although, at a dessert buffet, we can usually find something to eat.
Hi, Kab! I’m glad I only have five people on my Christmas list, if you don’t count shopping for myself. My in-laws are easy - renew one subscription and give them a memory card with lots of pictures for their digital photo frame I gave them last year. One son is already working on his want list, I need to prod my hubby & the other son to work on theirs. That son never could come up with anything he wanted last year, so he got mostly cash. I did buy him a case of Oreos (vending size packages) from Sam’s, and he said that was the best gift! I do pick up a few stocking stuffers for myself when I see something I’d like, but I’ve told my hubby he still needs to buy some for me, as I like some surprises. Considering that some years he waits until Christmas Eve and goes to the tiny Family Dollar store to do his Christmas shopping (which is just for me, I handle the rest), if I didn’t help, I would have a very skinny stocking.
I usually do the more expensive shopping on-line, and save the in-person shopping for stocking stuffers and normal household shopping.
Kab - Several years ago, my husband and I were shopping at Atwood’s (farm supply store) I think on our anniversary date. (Don’t laugh - it’s a family tradition! My parents’ anniversary was Dec. 12 and they always went Christmas shopping on their “date”.) Anyway, while we were there, I asked him to pick out items he’d like for stocking stuffers for himself. He did, and even put them in the shopping cart. I paid for them, and hid them away until I filled his stocking. When he pulled them out, he was the happiest I’ve ever seen him with any gift. He had completely forgotten he picked them out, and thought I had done a fantastic job of shopping that year.
Kab - So this year, we were shopping recently at the Big Tool Store in Derby, and I asked him to pick out his stocking stuffers again. Now I just have to start sorting out what I’ve bought already as gifts, and see who I need to buy more for.
Grog - I know the feeling, so I try to not wrap too early, or else make sure I have a system or notes to remember to keep them organized. When the kids were younger, so I was trying to keep them from doing too much snooping, I had a number of tricks “up my sleeve”. I made stickers of teddy bears that reminded me of each of my sons’ bears, to put on their packages instead of their names. I think last year, when I just wrapped the gifts in boxes closed with duct tape, I used different color of duct tape for each person. I’ve put bricks or other heavy objects in with the gifts to throw them off as well. My mom used to hide the real gift, and just wrap up a clue to put under the tree. We had to follow a series of her rhyming clues before we found our gifts. I’m just not as good of a poet as she was.
Good one, Rmom. Make you work for your gifts. My Mom and I were both the type who would do the Christmas shopping through the course of the year. I hated being in the Department stores during the Christmas rush. The only thing I bought last minute were the perishables.
My Mom would hide the gifts so well, she sometimes forgot where she hid them.
Good luck with that, Lil’ Sis!
The question is, if you trapped Santa Claus, what would you do with him?
Sorta like if a dog caught a car he chased, what would he do with it?
My sweet Bibs is losing weight and we just came back from a visit to vet. Not sure what is happening….rats. Has good kidneys and Liver, no diabetes and no infection or parasites. Possible heart murmer and testing for Hyperthroid. He is 7 years old and a tamed former feral cat and now a loving friend. He has leveled out on the weight loss for the moment within 2 oz. Doc Toon you know how I am feeling, probably.
Hi all from BT. I read your posts. My brother-in-law did exactly as Rmom’s mom did to my sister, and their house is very small with a garage for storage and a work shop. It was amusing how he cleverly hid what he bought for her almost in plain site. Also when we wrap gifts we try to be sneaky more fun.
All but our mom is limited on income. She just doesn’t spend all her SS money and it accumlates. I have told her Uncle Sam will want it back. And we get stuck with higher taxes.
Me I’m not watching sports at all. Working on studies and extra credit.
We here just draw names. Been doing this a long time. Then evening go and see what different neighbors spend on Christmas lighting.
For some of you who take pictures if you see some lights that would look great from your different states might be interesting viewing on BT. I might see if my daughter or son can do this and I can post. So far this hasn’t been done.
Kab - I’ll see if I can take some pictures of Christmas lights. Winfield has their park really lit up, unfortunately, they charge admission.
Our internet went out for an hour or so this afternoon, and just came back on. I haven’t a clue as to why.
I know I can go we web sites to also see different Christmas lights. This might be cheaper then driving if people posted their own lights on web site like U-tube. Not sure about Photobucket.
Held off on lunch today, much to the dismay of the little woman who spends time with me. But I am done for the day now and I am nice and warm here in the casa!
The Iron Bowl turned out to be the tale of two halves. ‘Bama was up 24-zip before Auburn got points on the board toward the end of the second half. A quick strike to start the 3rd made it a game again. When the dust settled, Auburn won 28-27. What a game!!!
I then had Thanksgiving all over again while watching The Ox-Bow Incident. Great Movie!
