I think the lizard is a metaphor for the recurring Jeopardy category Potent Potables.

DRY My new shrink suspects it may not be the faces at all, but may be related to that maple my Mustang tried to leap in 78. Maples are stronger than brains, according to him. He says the faces are only reminders of mine plastered to the windshield. Good pills though..

The lizard is a metaphor for Senate Republicans who say no to whatever the people need and apologize to corporations.

I’m thinking that the lizard was in the wrong spot at the wrong time so it became the meal ticket. The weak perish to feed the strong that survive. It’s Natures way of balancing the population.

Even our Patriotic National symbol has to eat.

Oh, and as for that lizard? He represents spammers, which I, the Noble Eagle, am eating systematically wherever I find them on GoComics. :)

    Hi All,

Naturally, I’m surprised there were different interpretations about what the lizard symbolizes. For the record, Johanan is ABSOLUTELY correct about the diet of the “bald” eagle - but in this case, the lizard just symbolizes a quick meal. Sorry to disappoint all who might have attached some political significance to it.

Also, AlanV, I hope I’ve offended Canada by not mentioning Canada Day, whatever that is. Thank you for that credit. Rarely do I get credit for offending by not doing something, so I take extra relish in this offense.

Also, I hope I have offended lizards everywhere. They deserve it!

As usual, Doc, you know me too well. Please keep explaining it. Paul345 - YOU ARE CORRECT, SIR! (Can you hear Ed MacMahon?)

Thank you all for the nice words and for reading this… uh… fourth cartoon.

    Thom

My original comment was more in hopes of deflecting comments away from political toward fun and silly. I knew it was a long shot.

Just to be sure, I did a Google search on Freudian lizard and found nothing useful for analyzing this comic, though to be fair, I didn’t look at all 1,600,000 hits.

So yeah, sometimes a lizard is just a good snack.
