GoComics Adds Five New Comics in November
by GoComicsWe had a lot to be thankful for in November, including FIVE new additions to GoComics! Catch up below.
Sweet & Sour Pork is like a little diner with a chef that likes to try new things. You never know what he's going to put on the menu. You might not like every dish, but if you visit enough you'll find something you like.
Creator Bob Holt has been drawing since childhood and is grateful that his passion has turned into a career. As an employee of famed greeting card and ornament creator Hallmark for 30 years, Holt uses his experience in the field when developing his comic. A resident of the Kansas City, Mo., metropolitan area, Holt is a co-creator of "hoops&yoyo," a pair of animated characters featured on Hallmark cards.
Lunarbaboon by Christopher Grady
Lunarbaboon chronicles the daily struggles of a 30-something father as he deals with depression, anxiety and raising a family. It is a tribute to the bond between father and child, as well as husband and wife. The comic is intended to be read by mature adults who have playful imaginations and don't take life too seriously.
An elementary school teacher in Toronto, Ontario, Chris Grady is the creator behind Lunarbaboon. He spends the majority of his time with his wife and two children and makes comics when the rest of the world is asleep.
In Fowl Language, cartoonist Brian Gordon draws on his trials and tribulations of raising two small children. By poking fun at the daily tedium and frustrations of parenting, he hopes to give comfort to parents who are losing their minds just as quickly as he is.
Gordon moved from Massachusetts to Kansas City, Mo., in 1997 to work for Hallmark Cards as a greeting card artist. It was a great job with good benefits, and his plan was to pretty much stay there forever. Unfortunately, Hallmark had other ideas, and he was laid off after spending 18 years with the company.
The transition from salaried corporate employee to independent cartoonist has been tumultuous and scary, but the upside is that he's finally able to pursue his childhood dream of being a full-time cartoonist.
Jeff Weigel's graphic novel Dragon Girl: The Secret Valley is now available on GoComics!
Dragons are dangerous creatures - all the stories say so. But after 11-year-old Alanna accidentally stumbles upon some dragon eggs, she soon discovers that maybe the stories have it wrong.
11-year-old Alanna and her older brother, Hamel, are orphans and doing their best to take care of each other until one day Alanna stumbles upon a cave full of dragon eggs. When the eggs hatch with no mother dragon in sight, Alanna decides to take care of the babies herself, even creating a clever costume so that the babies think she, too, is a dragon. With their large appetites and accidental fire-burps, Alanna learns that dragon babies are hard work! And when a mama dragon finally comes to claim the babies, Alanna's costume is so convincing that she is swept along for the ride as they journey to Dragon Rock, a mysterious, magnetic force that draws dragons of all shapes and sizes to a magical, untouched valley.
Weigel is an author, illustrator and designer. He worked with Michael P. Spradlin to create the New York Times bestseller It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Zombies, a book of zombie Christmas carols. Weigel has also written his own children's books, Atomic Ace (He's Just My Dad) and Atomic Ace and the Robot Rampage in addition to his graphic novel Thunder From The Sea: Adventure on Board the HMS Defender. Weigel also created an interactive story-telling app for the iPad and makes frequent guest appearances at elementary schools to teach kids about drawing and writing.
Sketchy Chics are sassy and relatable with an insatiable appetite for wine, cupcakes, wine, chocolate, wine and anything blingy. They are graceful (in a clumsy way), enjoy singing and dancing (horribly) and practice positivity (my wine glass is half full!). Whether you're having a horrible hair day or you're in stirrups at the ob/gyn, they are there when you need a laugh. Also? If you find your tongue stuck in a wine bottle, or your muffin top turns into a pound cake after lunch, that's OK too! Sketchy Chics support you. Like a best friend. Or a really great bra.
Rose Cooper is an author/illustrator with Penguin Random House and her book series are translated and published in more than 13 countries. Also a licensed artist, her Sketchy Chics will be launched in January 2016 as greeting cards and stationary by Pictura.
For as long as Rose can remember, people have laughed at her. She is inspired by her own life experiences and those around her. She suffers from spontaneous laughter syndrome, often triggered from a joke told several days earlier. This usually happens at inappropriate times and leads to much awkwardness. She lives in California with her husband, three boys, and her adorable cat and puppy, who both hate playing dress-up. The cat is still holding a grudge.
