GoComics Book Club: "The Dreadful Fate of Jonathan York"
by GoComicsGoComics Book Club keeps you in the know about books for all ages, relating to your favorite comics and authors!
Adding some spook to the already scary season, Andrews McMeel Publishing released "The Dreadful Fate of Jonathan York" by Kory Merritt on Oct. 6!
Beware those of the spotless yard,
Who never dare venture
Beyond dyed grass and trimmed hedges
To the Lost Side of Suburbia,
Where tree roots dance the twist
And lichen glimmers and brooks burble bad poetry.
So begins the eerie sojourn of Jonathan York, a regular guy who finds himself in a very irregular situation. Mr. York had the poor luck to take a shortcut, and as anyone who reads regularly can tell you, taking a shortcut in literature is almost never a good idea.
The tenet holds true for Jonathan York, who finds himself in swamp full of creepy humans and even creepier creatures. Fans of R.L. Stine and Lemony Snicket will thrill at Mr. York's adventures with deep-sea monsters, stolen treasure, eight-legged thieves, alien abductors, cave dragons, toxic ice cream and, oh yes, being eaten alive.
Kory Merritt, the twisted genius behind these dreadful tales, is also the creator of The Lost Side of Suburbia and the artist behind the popular Poptropica comic strip and impending graphic novel series co-written with Jeff Kinney. In his spare time, he teaches art to elementary school kids.
