The United States adopted its signature stars and stripes in flag form on June 14, 1777. There weren't 50 states at the time, of course, so the flag looked a little different by the time people started celebrating a proper "Flag Day" in the mid-1800s -- and a lot different once it became an official holiday in 1949 via Harry S. Truman signing an Act of Congress. The flag would continue to change until ten years later when Alaska and Hawaii would be admitted as states in 1959. The flag has remained consistent for the past six decades or so, meaning that unlike electronics or clothing, flag buyers haven't had to contend with built-in obsolescence on that particular good. Mostly it's just made it easier for us to collect these Flag Day comics from our archive. We only had to fact-check a few to verify historical accuracy compliance!
