In the years following the world's simultaneous mass adoption of social media and smartphones with front-facing cameras, selfies have become so ubiquitous that we frankly struggle to remember a time before them. Their evolution from a novelty to a daily presence in our lives is evocative of other pivotal technological shifts in human society. If you think about it, we take selfies for granted the way early humans did fire and the wheel!

Fire and the wheel, however, don't have their own holidays (even though they should!). Celebrate National Selfie Day the proper way by unintentionally capturing the boogers in your nose and posting them to Instagram for a full 45 minutes before noticing. But first, read these selfie comics.
