Veteran cartoonist Ruben Bolling received a 2018 RFK Journalism Award for his work on the satirical comic Tom the Dancing Bug. Bolling and other award recipients were honored at a ceremony last night at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.

A GoComics feature since 1998, Tom the Dancing Bug lampoons politics, corporate corruption, celebrity culture and other aspects of American society. The strip also has a subscription-based fan club called The Inner Hive. 

Originally appearing in the Harvard Law Record in the 1980s, Tom the Dancing Bug draws much of its style from free-form sketch comedy. A typical week's comic could feature "an australopithecine, an omnipotent superhero, an impoverished duck, a time-traveling idiot or even weird characters like politicians."
