'B.C.' Animated Film is in the Works
by Stephen RothJohnny Hart's classic strip, B.C., is being developed into an animated feature film.
It'll be a while, however, before you can see B.C., Peter, Thor, and their prehistoric pals fleshed out in animated form.
B.C.: Back to Civilization has a tentative 2021 release date, according to Parallax Media Ventures, which is developing the movie with John Hart Studios.
"B.C. is an American classic like apple pie and baseball," Parallax founder Kevin Richardson said in a prepared statement. "This gives us a tremendous connection to the fans, and allows us to expand B.C. to an on-screen and off-screen experience."
This won't be the first attempt to bring B.C.'s cavemen and animals to life. The characters were featured in two holiday specials, 1973's B.C.: The First Thanksgiving, and B.C.: A Special Christmas in 1981. B.C. and his friends also appeared in several different animated commercials during the 1970s and 80s.
Johnny Hart passed away in 2007. His grandson, Mason Mastroianni, now produces the iconic, 60-year-old strip, which you can read here. For classic B.C. strips dating back to its origins in 1958, visit GoComics' Back to B.C. page.
