'Swan Eaters' Has Landed for Your Spooky Viewing Pleasure
by Charlie UpchurchBreaking Cat News's Georgia Dunn has released a new comic - Swan Eaters - that delivers spooky delights, cackles and a lot of heart.
"I grew up loving The Addams Family and The Munsters, stories of Baba Yaga, Rasputin, witchcraft, freak shows, Irish travelers, and Russian folklore," Georgia said.
She conceived the idea for Swan Eaters during a bout of the flu. A fever dream unfolded concerning a hag looking after a group of children, who kept stealing her spellbook and summoning monsters through a portal they'd drawn in crayon on the floor. The scary, sitcom-esque, silly vibe of Swan Eaters was born, and by the time Georgia recovered from the flu, she had the first dozen comics drawn:
When asked about how the family relationships in Swan Eaters echo the dysfunctional dynamics of many families, Geogia said, "The family relationships sort of poured out as I wrote, partly in jest, but as time spun out partly because families seem to all be a little messy or full of estrangements or resentments. A lot of the stories revolve around the tensions and reactions between the family members - until the outside world threatens them, which it tends to do. When the chips are down, they stick together. And so even though their circumstances are supernatural and they're most often fighting about and opening portals into other dimensions - they're a lot like most families."
Georgia ran Swan Eaters between 2011-2013 on Swaneaters.com, where the "supernatural adventure soap opera" unfolded. When Georgia's son was born, she halted Swan Eaters with a crucial cliffhanger involving a rescue from an exile dimension. Then, as luck would have it, inspiration for Georgia's popular comic Breaking Cat News struck!
As you may well know, Breaking Cat News was syndicated online, then began appearing in newspapers, as well as on GoComics.com. Georgia was forced to put Swan Eaters on hold. However, the strip debuted this month on GoComics, and Georgia looks forward to resolving aformentioned the cliffhanger for devoted fans and new readers alike!
