Ahhh, those K-tel compilations of the early ’80s; they were then what those “Now Music” CDs are today. Somewhere I have a copy of Hit Express on vinyl, and I loved most of the songs on it (though I could have done without “I’ve Never Been to Me”).
I have a “Smokey Robinson’s Greatist Hits/Greatist Hits of Marvin Gaye” on 3 vinyl albums. It alternates Smokey, Marvin, Smokey, Marvin, etc. and it is OUTSTANDING!
Bill Maher had a good parody of the snuggie/ShamWow…in a commercial that combined them. Now you can wipe those spills and buff that silver to a fine finish while relaxing on the couch. Need to use the bathroom? No problem! The ultra-absorbent power of your “SnugWow” willalleviate the need to ever leave the couch…
I have some K-Tel “Best of…” in my collection. Audio is not quite the same as the original records, but as I age my old ears can’t quite tell the difference any more.
Most music for the past twenty years or more has been recorded digitally to reduce the noise that gets added with analog recordings(pops, hiss, etc.). It’s also easier to edit with digital tracks on a computer.
Joe_Minotaur, I don’t think of digitally recorded albums as being crystal clear, but as being a bit sterile and missing the warmth of analog.
But you have to realize, a few of us are waxing nostalgic about the music of our youth. You’re dealing with a bunch of old geezers who grew up with pop and hiss, and we miss it.

At least now it’s ShamWow and Mighty Putty and you can actually use those.

Ah…vinyl. Digital just does not sound the same.
