“Danny Kaye sings for Children” was a very old record with a couple of song about Tubby the Tuba - one of which had him looking for “his” song and contained a lovely tuba solo in it. i used to play the opening bars of “La Marseillaise” as a demonstration of the tuba’s range when i played one during high school days. (it’s the French National Anthem for those who don’t know it.)

But penguins don’t have lips. How does he play?

Oh sure, nitpick!
tis4kis about 15 years ago
It’s true he doesn’t have lips… which is WHY it sounds like “PHWOOMP! OOMPH UMPTH! BLATT!” and “HONK!”

C’mon people, the groupies are so stoned they’ll clap for anything. Even a tuba solo from a penguin.

What I love are the enormously improved lyrics!
Logicman about 15 years ago
This would be ‘improved’ in a sense I was not previously aware of – although they ARE funnier!

Maybe the girls are going wild because he’s waist-high and has amazing mouth control.

That was herring and tuba, not bass!

I prefer my tuba with a little mayo and green onion on wheat bread.

Hey yyyguy -
I listened to Tubby the Tuba when I was young. I had it on a 45 rpm record (if I recall correctly).

A tuba player with no lips must have a very talented tongue.
