I drove all night to surprise my girlfriend with a love poem at her office during lunchtime, “I have crossed the deserts by night…” Ring-ring. She answered the phone. Start again. “I have crossed the deserts by night to profess my love…” Ring-ring. She was completely incapable of letting the phone ring, even though it was her lunch break. Should have been a clue that it wasn’t going to work out.
