I must not remember that show as well as I thought, I would have sworn they did get together and shortly after the show got cancelled. Happens all the time, if there is romantic tension it kills the vibe if the characters get together. Or if they are already a couple and they have a kid. Every single time.
IIRC, the two Moonlighting stars didn’t along with each other and it limited the believability of their romantic scenes. The show runners therefore created a new character, Herbert Viola, to be the love interest of Agnes DiPesto to give viewers the romantic comedy they wanted.
