The Boondocks by Aaron McGruder for February 19, 2015
Transcript:
Huey: My St. Nick Jenkins story is much better than that old "Night Before Christmas" nonsense. Thomas: A jolly black man unjustly imprisoned for eternity?! That's totally inappropriate! Huey: Well, every year at Christmas my family remembers a certain famous revolutionary who was unjustly jailed and lost his life. Thomas: Who? Martin Luther King, Jr.? Huey: No, not King... Thomas: Well, who? Steven Biko? Nat Turner? There's a lot of 'em, you know, but what does that have to do with Christmas!!? Huey: (sigh) C'mon, think really hard...

It’s “there are a lot,” not “there’s a lot.” It would be nice if McGruder used correct grammar and diction to make his point. Not only would he convey a moral lesson, he’s set an good example to pupils and students of English. As it stands, he gives the impression that he’s poorly educated and not quite literate.
