I hate to ask this: Is Huey hinted at her ethnicity? If not, then what?

Race just makes division more visible. I’ve lived where the town was all descended from some crotchety 102 year old. Teachers & preachers & their families were hired transients like ranch hands. They hoped we’d edumicate their younguns enough they wouldn’t need transients for that. Most went to the Friends Church that didn’t need a preacher. Interstate freeway construction crews brought a lower class of of transient to look down on (with a family of midgets!), & they were there a while because after the flood of ’65 they had to build all the bridges again.
