In my long computer career I always insisted I was a nerd, not a geek. The geeks had no lives other than computers, had few social skills, and had to be told to wear socks with their sandals in the summer.
We nerds, on the other hand, had normal lives, could interact with non-technical people, and could dress decently. The geeks were sometimes brilliant while we nerds only had to be smart, since our task was to keep the geeks and customers apart and to translate between them. The customers often couldn’t tell we were nerds at all unless we told them. The geeks the customers could always tell when contact was unavoidable.
I had great respect for the geeks, the best of which could write entire operating systems on their own or create compilers for fun. Without them we nerds would have had nothing to do.
